Hello and welcome to the new Cat Tails and Cookies blog! I am very excited to bring my blog and all of the recipes from the old website to this beautiful new website that I have worked so hard on. I was using a different platform and decided it no longer fit my needs. So, I decided to build a new website myself that would be exactly what I wanted, and I am so happy you have found your way over to it! So, if you are new to this blog, you might be wondering, “Who are you?” and “What is the purpose of this blog?” Well, my name is Vanessa. I am married to a wonderful man named, Mike. We have two sweet cats, a very loving dog, 4 crazy chickens, and two even crazier ducks. The ducks and chickens are a little harder to get nice photos of because they never stop moving, but the rest of the family is pictured below.
I have always had a passion for baking and learned to enjoy cooking in my late teens. I used to only bake things like cupcakes and cookies, but after becoming a wife, I learned the importance of baking other non-sweet things like bread, rolls, and biscuits. I also really fell into a love of cooking. The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, has basically become an idol to me. I own many products from her line, including every one of her cookbooks and I tend to draw some inspiration from her when creating my very own recipes, or find ways to make her recipes my own. So, what IS this blog all about? Mainly, it’s just me, sharing my favorite recipes that I’ve created right here in my own kitchen, and occasionally ones that have been inspired by recipes from Ree.
What else might you find on this blog? Well, my husband and I have always had a dream of becoming more self sufficient. Last summer, in 2019, we were able to buy a house in a small mountain town and finally start making that dream a reality. My husband is a wonderful carpenter as a hobby and has built us a chicken coop, where we house our chickens and ducks, and we are now able to get fresh eggs every day. We have spent a lot of time turning our property into a more usable space for us, so this Spring we were able to start our first real garden. On my previous blog website, I was unable to blog about our garden and other things we are growing and learning about on our property because I was unable to create a separate space for those types of posts from my regular recipe posts. So on this blog, I hope to post more things about our garden, our flock, and any other new adventures we embark on as new home owners and our journey to becoming more self sufficient.
